Draft Environmental Guidelines
Sydney Olympic Park Authority has updated their Environmental Guidelines to align with the aspirational standards for excellence in the draft Master Plan 2050 and to inform the Parklands Plan of Management.
The main role of the draft Environmental Guidelines, is to set the strategic direction for environmental performance in the Master Plan 2050 and the Parklands Plan of Management, which in turn guides the future development and management of Sydney Olympic Park.
The Environmental Guidelines are an aspirational document, providing a framework which outlines the intent for the Authority and other organisations undertaking development and activities in the suburb in relation to achieving best-practice environmental management. The Guidelines set standards that focus on: Nature conservation; Community Wellbeing; Design of Place; Sustainable Transport; Pollution Prevention; Circular Economy; Integrated Water Management; Energy Efficiency; Climate Resilience; Asset Functionality.

How have the Environmental Guidelines changed?
The draft Environmental Guidelines are an improvement on the 2008 Environmental Guidelines as they:
- reflect NSW Government policies and guidelines,
- expand on the commitments for best-practice environmental management at Sydney Olympic Park,
- incorporate First Nations and connection to Country considerations, and
- reflect the aspirations in the Sydney Olympic Park 2050 Vision and Master Plan.
The draft Environmental Guidelines provide a framework for Sydney Olympic Park to achieve and maintain a 6 Star Green Star Community certification through the Green Building Council of Australia.
The Guidelines maintain the environmental promise of the Sydney Olympic and Paralympic 2000 Games yet have been expanded to reflect current commitments to target carbon net zero emissions, Connection to Country, and a Country first, nature positive approach to decision making and placemaking. They also increase emphasis on community well-being and designing for a sustainable, climate resilient future.
