FAQs

Why is Sydney Olympic Park installing EV chargers?

This project expands the Park’s commitment to sustainability and supports the NSW Government’s transition to cleaner transport. It also responds to growing community demand for accessible EV charging options, with only one charging spot currently available on Murray Rose Avenue, which is not accessible during major events.

Who is delivering the charging infrastructure?

NRMA is responsible for designing, installing and maintaining the charging hub under a 15 year licence agreement (13 April 2026 – 13 April 2041).

Where is the proposed charging hub located?

The hub will be located in the P5b car park at Sydney Olympic Park, adjacent to UrbnSurf and near Haslam’s pump track and BMX track.

Will the charging hub be available 24/7?

Yes. These chargers can be used at any time. Customers can register their vehicle for two hours free parking, then parking fees apply. Major events will have no impact on accessing the charging hub at P5b car park.

Are the chargers accessible for people with disabilities?

The design includes consideration for accessibility, with clear pathways, adequate lighting, and space for larger vehicles. Final accessibility features will be confirmed during detailed design.

Will the installation reduce the number or parking spaces?

Yes. The hub will occupy 19 existing parking spaces to accommodate charger stations and associated parking spots. P5b is not available to pre-book for major event parking, and this will not affect major event days.

How many chargers are being installed?

The hub will include:
4 fast chargers, supporting 8 vehicles at once
3 standard chargers, supporting 5 vehicles at once

Is there a cost to use the chargers?

Yes. Charging is provided on a user pays basis, with fees set by NRMA. pays basis, with fees set by NRMA.

Is parking free while I charge?

The first two hours of parking are free when you register your vehicle. Standard parking fees apply after that, in line with P5b car park conditions.

Do I need an NRMA membership to use the chargers?

No. Anyone can use the chargers, although NRMA members may access a 10% member discount.

Will the installation cause noise or disruption?

Construction activity will be managed to minimise disruption. Once operational, EV chargers generate very little noise.

Can I view the design?

Please contact Sydney Olympic Park Authority if you wish to view the design specifications.

When will the chargers be installed?

Installation is expected to be completed by July 2026.
