Love cats and wildlife? You can do both this Biodiversity Month!

10 August 2022

Did you know:

  • A cat kept safe at home will live on average 10 years longer than a cat who is allowed to roam
  • Less than 1 in 10 cats who go missing in NSW are reunited with their family
  • 2 in 3 cat owners have lost a cat to a roaming-related accident
  • 1 in 3 cat owners have lost a cat to a car accident

Sydney Olympic Park is excited to collaborate with the RSPCA NSW on a ground breaking project – Keeping Cats Safe at Home, a campaign created to encourage those who love cats to keep their feline companions safe and fulfilled – at home.

This initiative is incredibly important to Sydney Olympic Park, as the Park is home to over 250 animal species that may be impacted by cats, including many rare and threatened wildlife such as the endangered Green and Golden Bell Frog.

September is Biodiversity Month, and the Authority is hosting a free 2-hour community event called 'Life in the Park' on Saturday September 3. The Parkland Ecologist Jenny O'Meara will present an overview of nature at Sydney Olympic Park and how to enjoy it, followed by a presentation from the RSPCA NSW's Dr Gemma Ma and Silvina Tolli on the Keeping Cats Safe at Home campaign. Come and find inspiration, motivation and information needed to protect nature and give your cats long, healthy and enriched lives at the same time!
